Discussions with artists are becoming increasingly popular, as this form of communication between the artist and the audience reflects the very essence of our time, in which distances are becoming shorter, the boundaries between different genres are merging into one another and conversation takes place online, which makes it dynamic and reveals an unexpected side of a person.

One of these discussions will be held by the art historian Valentin Dyakonov on December 9, 2011 with the Russian photographer Sergey Chilikov. The event is timed to coincide with the opening of the Selected Works exhibition, which started in October at Third Floor Gallery (Cardiff, Wales, UK) and the launch of the book Sergey Chilikov: Selected Works 1978 –, published this autumn by the Dutch publisher Schilt Publishing in collaboration with the Gallery.Photographer.ru. This was the first publication of the works of the famous photographer in book format. All those who attend the discussion will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the book signed by the author. The exhibition will feature more than 40 colour and black and white works by the artist who is called a “photographer amongst philosophers and a philosopher amongst photographers”, the founder of “rustic glamour” and also the “Russian answer to Kusturica”. He does not call himself a “photographer”, rather a “visualist”. It really is as if he brings things to life, visualizes images from our collective unconsciousness and enables us to look deeper and wider, whilst providing a wealth of material not only for artistic analysis, but also culturological analysis.
