Rena Effendi, the author of the Gallery.Photographer.ru has won the prestigious Prince Claus Fund Award. She will receive a cash prize of 25,000 Euros.
As noted in an official press release on the event, Rena Effendi’s work defends human dignity and tenacity. Her photographs demonstrate her awareness of each particular experience and her ability to go beyond the boundaries of purely surface impressions. There are two important qualities that distinguish Effendi’s work: a deep sense of empathy and delight at the strength of the human spirit.
The Prince Claus Fund Award was founded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1997. The overall winner receives a cash prize of 100,000 Euros. The remaining ten winners receive 25,000 Euros from the Dutch ambassadors in their country of permanent residence. The prizes will be awarded on December 14, 2011 during an official ceremony at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, which will be held in the presence of the honourary chair of the Fund, Prince Constantijn, and other members of the royal family. The winners are chosen by an independent international commission.
