Sergey Chilikov at the exhibition “Russian Renaissance” at Brot Kunsthalle (Vienna)

On 18 January the “Russian Renaissance” exhibition opens at Brot Kunsthalle (Vienna). Sergey Chilikov, the author of the Gallery.Photographer.ru, is one of its participants.

The Russain Renaissance didn’t manifest itself in time and acquired a diffuse nature: we could trace it in any historical period of Russia from the 15th century until now. The question of a Russia’s rebirth has become topical again. This became the main theme of the exhibition. Represented artists – Oleg Kulik, Kirill Chelushkin, Dmitry Gutov, Sergey Chilikov, Anatoly Osmolovsky, Dmitry Bulnygin, Russian art groups Blue Noses and AES+F and others – consider Russia and its perspectives in their own way.

Sergey Chilikov is a painter of scenes from everyday life in the Russian province. According to the evidence provided by his photographs, country life has changed little since the Soviet era: the same inhabitants of the same flats, the same exteriors, almost the same faces and fashion. Chilikov’s outdated Russia is on fire with human passions and sensual revolution.

The exhibition will last till February, 25.
